This is observational work, so it shows association, not proof that fixing your schedule adds years. Still, the direction is consistent across a very large sample, and it points at something you can actually control. Most people cannot manufacture two extra hours of sleep. Why is your wake time the anchor, not your bedtime?
Because bedtime is a result, not a decision. You cannot instruct yourself to fall asleep at 11:00pm and have your nervous system comply. You can decide when you get out of bed, and that decision cascades: it sets when light hits your eyes, when you eat and move, and how much sleep pressure has built by the following evening.
Light is the strongest signal your body clock receives, and it is most potent in the first 30 to 60 minutes after waking. Fix the wake time, get outside near it, and the bedtime you have been trying to force starts arriving on its own a week or two later.
